DATA ERASURE
All data is completely wiped from the hard drive, leaving it in tact to be reused or remarketed. This is the best option when the hard drive still has market value or will be reused by the owner.
HARD DRIVE DESTRUCTION
The physical hard drive is thoroughly shredded by machine, making it impossible to recover the data. This would be the best option for hard drives with very little or no value, and won't be reused.
Hard drives can be wiped to either of these standards based on the client's requirement.
NIST 800-88 REV1 STANDARD 2014 (3 Pass)
This is the most current, and most secure standard. It supersedes the earlier DOD Standards.
DOD 5220.22-M STANDARD 1995 (3 Pass)
This is an older standard that is still used by some companies. It is no longer accepted by the DOD or any other federal agencies.
DOD 5220.22-M ECE STANDARD 2001 (7 Pass)
This standard consists of running the DOD 522.22-M standard twice, with an extra pass in between.
You have the flexibility of having your hard drives erased or destroyed on-site at your facility for a charge. Most companies opt to have their hard drives wiped off-site when budgeting is a priority.
